Map of grape varieties in France

The different types of grapes are called Varieties. There are several hundred varieties, but the most popular and most sought-after by wine lovers come from France. Here, they have thrived in the climates and soils best suited to the production of top-quality wines. The quality and reputation of Varietal Wines of France also come from two millenniums of know-how.

GRENACHE (NOIR)

This warm grape variety that likes wind and drought-like conditions is planted in the South of France. It makes rosé wines that are clear and crisp, often called vins gris (“Gray Wines”). It is also used to produce generous red wines that are often blended with wines made from the Syrah grape variety.

CINSAULT

This generous grape variety is used to produce a large share of the rosé wines produced on the shores of the Mediterranean. It stands out thanks to its salmon-pink color and an alluring, balanced, fruity personality. It is also used to make red wines.
